Acoustic and vibration measurements

Monitoring nuisances for a high-quality environment

Human activities in general, and construction work in particular, generate environmental nuisances (noise, vibration, dust, etc.).

Monitoring these allows them to be better controlled, reducing their impact on local residents and the environment.

Acoustic and vibration monitoring also plays a role in preserving biodiversity.

Acoustics and vibration

Monitoring noise levels helps to control the impact of construction sites and installations on ambient noise, as well as checking noise levels in places such as homes.
Installing noise sensors also enables the detection of land or aquatic animals. Thus, acoustic monitoring becomes a tool for preserving and protecting animal species during construction work.

Vibration control enables the level of vibration emitted by construction equipment or machinery to be checked, as well as how it propagates over a given distance.
This is an essential tool for protecting sensitive buildings, infrastructure and structures containing measuring instruments, such as hospitals, railway control centres and factories. These sensors are also used to monitor the vibration modes and amplitudes of structures over the long term.

The different types of measurement

Noise measurement includes Class I or II measurements, dB(A), frequency analysis, time variations, audio recordings and noise source identification.

Vibration measurements can be taken in terms of peak-to-peak velocity (ppv), displacement or acceleration, and can be single-axis or tri-axis. Time variations, frequency analyses and modal analyses can also be performed.

The installation of environmental sensors enables:

  • Monitoring the pollution emitted by your construction site or facility
  • Checking your environment
  • Support in setting up biodiversity protection measures
