Automatic monitoring and manual surveying

Just 20 minutes away from central Muscat, on the Arabian Sea, stands the Barr Al Jissah resort. Bringing together a complex of villas with a five-star resort, the Shangri La, Barr al Jissah is an exceptional luxury destination in Oman.

After completion of the luxurious “Dawn Villas”, and due to heavy rains in 2009, the rockfill where the houses are built was sliding towards the sea. Manual monitoring was then requested and it confirmed the continuous embankment settlement, especially after rainfall.

After a stand-by period, in 2012, Barr Al Jissah resort company decided to launch grouting repair works to stabilize the embankment. They requested Sixense for automatic monitoring and manual surveying for the 30 weeks of grouting and around 40 weeks of “post construction” monitoring.

The system implemented for this project consisted of 4 Cyclops to monitor around 30 high standing villas. An international team of Sixense experts from Spain, Romania, France and England was sent to the site to carry out this urgent installation for this 1st major project in Oman. The Sixense Middle East branch then remotely ensured daily monitoring to confirm stabilization of the embankment.
