New public park

The Sheraton Park is the creation of a renewed public green space covering the area from the Doha Bay to the Sheraton Hotel. The public park will separate the Corniche Road, the main boulevard of Doha, from the Financial Centre and Diplomatic Area in the West Bay.

The project includes the design and creation of a public park, a two-storey underground car park accommodating around 2,000 vehicles, in addition to a tunnel connection leading to the convention centre being constructed adjacent to the Sheraton Park.

Landscaped gardens in front of the Doha Sheraton Hotel, which is located in the financial and diplomatic district of the West Bay area of Doha, will cover a 73 000 square metre (sqm) area and will involve building fountains, play areas and restaurants. The work also includes construction of a maintenance depot and command centre for the future Doha light rail system, as well as three electricity substations.

Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company (QDREIC) and Vinci Construction Grand Projets (VCGP) have been awarded the project while Soletanch Bachy was subcontracted the realization of thousands of minipiles.

Testing during pile production

In this context, Sixense has been subcontracted the pile tension testing by Soletanche Bachy Qatar.

The minipiles of 12 m deep and 300 mm diameter were equipped with 1 or 2 no. of 63 mm diameter reinforcement steel bars to ensure the structural connection with the future base slab of the parking. During the 12 months of production of minipiles, Sixense Abu Dhabi branch carried out 22 preliminary traction tests (150 and 400 T) and 12 working pile traction tests (150 T), the longest loading sequence lasting up to 40 hours.
